Mauritius South Trip Tour
Mauritius South Tour – Full Itinerary Guide
Discover the wild, scenic and cultural beauty of Mauritius with this carefully designed South Tour itinerary, featuring iconic viewpoints, waterfalls, beaches, cliffs, and optional attractions. This route focuses on the island’s most breathtaking natural landscapes, from volcanic mountains to rugged coastlines and crystal lagoons.
Note:
⏱️ Starting time is 08:30 (typical), but exact destinations may vary depending on your hotel pickup location.
🚗 A 1-hour scenic drive is expected before reaching the first major stop.
1. Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao) – 20 minutes
Your journey begins at one of Mauritius’ most sacred sites: Grand Bassin, a serene volcanic crater lake surrounded by Hindu temples and towering statues of Lord Shiva, Durga Maa, and Lord Hanuman.
A short visit allows you to experience the peaceful atmosphere, enjoy quick photos, and admire the panoramic mountain scenery.

2. Alexandra Falls Viewpoint – 20 minutes
A short drive takes you into the untouched greenery of the Black River Gorges area. Alexandra Falls offers a refreshing escape into the forest, with a dramatic drop into deep valley vegetation.
It’s a quick but rewarding stop for nature lovers and photographers.

3. Black River Gorges Viewpoint – 20 minutes
Continue deeper into the national park and reach the main viewpoint overlooking the endless green valleys of southern Mauritius.
This is one of the best panoramic spots on the island, offering sweeping views of the Black River mountain range, deep forest landscapes, and (on clear days) the distant ocean.
4. Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth & Chamarel Waterfall – 55 minutes
Next, you’ll ascend towards the village of Chamarel, home to two major natural wonders:
Chamarel Waterfall
One of the tallest waterfalls in Mauritius with a 100-metre cascade plunging into a natural pool below.
Seven Coloured Earth
A unique geological formation with naturally layered dunes in hues of red, brown, violet, and purple.
You’ll also find giant tortoises and a charming café overlooking the colours.

5. Le Morne Public Beach – 1 hour 30 minutes
After exploring the heights of Chamarel, you descend directly to the coastline, arriving at the magnificent Le Morne Public Beach.
With its white sands, calm turquoise lagoon, and the iconic Le Morne Brabant mountain as a backdrop, this beach is perfect for swimming, relaxing, or taking postcard-worthy photos.
This extended stop replaces a lunch break, giving you extra time to enjoy the sun and sea.

6. Maconde Viewpoint – 20 minutes
Enjoy the view at this sharp turning point on a scenic road which was declared as one of the most beautiful in the world!

7. Gris Gris Viewpoint (Souillac) – 30 minutes
Unlike most of Mauritius’ calm coral-protected beaches, Gris Gris showcases the island’s wild side.
Here you’ll witness powerful waves crashing against tall cliffs, enjoy dramatic landscapes, and walk along the coastal pathways for stunning ocean views.

8. Roche Qui Pleure – 35 minutes
Just a few minutes from Gris Gris is Roche Qui Pleure, named “The Rock That Cries” because waves continuously crash and flow over it, creating the illusion of tears.
A short walk brings you closer to the cliff edge viewpoint, making it a peaceful and scenic end to the tour.

Optional Stops (Depending on Time & Pickup Location)
Bois Chéri Tea Factory & Museum
Mauritius’ oldest tea estate offers a fascinating factory visit, tea museum tour, and panoramic tasting area overlooking the tea fields. This is an excellent add-on for travellers interested in Mauritian culture and history.
Rochester Falls
One of Mauritius’ most famous waterfalls, located near Souillac.
Known for its rectangular basalt rock formations and refreshing pool, Rochester Falls is a fantastic optional stop if time, road conditions, and pickup location allow.
